Charlie Appleby gave a challenging task to Arabian Crown
Charlie Appleby is aiming for Arabian Crown to make his return in the Sky Bet Great Voltigeur Stakes next month. He wants to make sure his one-time Derby favourite is fully recovered before rushing him back to the track.
Arabian Crown, the son of Dubawi, was a top contender for the Epsom Derby after an impressive win in Sandown's Classic Trial. Unfortunately, a setback before the Derby forced him to miss the race. Now, Appleby is hopeful that Arabian Crown will be ready for the Group Two race at York on August 21.
Despite having stablemate Ancient Wisdom also lined up for the same race, Appleby is not feeling the pressure to push both horses to compete. He believes there will be plenty of opportunities for Arabian Crown to show his potential later in the year or next season.
Appleby emphasised that Arabian Crown is still on the road to recovery and he won't push him to make the York race if he's not ready. He sees Arabian Crown as a horse for the future and is looking forward to seeing him perform on softer ground in the autumn.
As Appleby prepares to watch the Euro 2024 final in Berlin, he is taking a patient approach with Arabian Crown, ensuring that he will be fully fit and ready to compete at his best when the time is right.
