Caernarfon dropping in the distance brought a victory at Pontefract

Caernarfon broke her winning drought by dropping back to a mile in the Weatherbys ePassport Pipalong Stakes at Pontefract. Trained by Mick Channon, she had not won since claiming the Montrose Fillies’ Stakes as a juvenile. Under the guidance of Jack Channon, she had been a consistent performer over longer distances but showed her class by winning at Listed level in West Yorkshire.

Ridden by Tom Marquand, Caernarfon led with a furlong to go and fended off a challenge from the favourite, Doha, to secure victory. Channon reflected on her previous runs and admitted they may have misjudged her ideal distance, but dropping back to a mile proved to be the right decision. He expressed confidence in her ability to compete at a higher level and hinted at future Group races as potential targets.
