Owen Burrows is considering moving Alyanaabi up in distance following his loss to Rosallion in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot. The Too Darn Hot colt finished fifth, nearly five lengths behind the winner, and Burrows believes that he needs a longer trip to reach his full potential.
Last season, Alyanaabi won the Group Three Tattersalls Stakes over seven furlongs at Newmarket before finishing second to City Of Troy in the Dewhurst. This year, he has raced twice at a mile, finishing fifth in both outings at Group One level.
Burrows stated, "He’s probably run to a similar level to what he did in the Guineas. It’s a very strong year for three-year-olds over a mile. He’s not quite able over a mile, but when we do step him up to 10 furlongs, he can improve a bit."
After a solid return from a 284-day break, Alflaila finished fourth in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes behind Auguste Rodin. Burrows was pleased with his performance but noted that the long lay-off may have affected his finishing kick.
Rowayeh faced traffic trouble and finished fourth in the Kensington Palace Stakes. Burrows believes that with a clearer run, she could have been more competitive in the race. Despite these setbacks, Burrows remains optimistic about the potential of his horses and looks forward to their upcoming races.
