Burdett Road returns to the racecourse

Burdett Road, previously a Royal Ascot winner under Michael Bell's training, is now gearing up for a return to the racecourse with hopes of competing in the Sky Bet Ebor later this summer. Owned by the Gredley family, the four-year-old has excelled in hurdling under James Owen, winning his first two races over timber before experiencing his first loss to Sir Gino on Cheltenham Festival Trials day.

Initially aimed for a Triumph Hurdle rematch, an injury setback led to a change in plans, focusing on valuable staying prizes on the flat. With Burdett Road now back in full training, he is set to make his reappearance before heading to York for the £500,000 feature event on August 24.

Owen expressed confidence in Burdett Road's condition, stating that a prep race in late July or early August will precede the Ebor. While the horse prepares for his return, Too Friendly has been impressing in top staying handicaps, most recently finishing fourth in the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle.

Despite Too Friendly heading to the Tattersalls July Sales, Owen acknowledges the horse's versatility and impact on the team. If not sold, Too Friendly could potentially return to Market Rasen for the Summer Handicap Hurdle. Owen praised the horse for his performance and thanked him for the enjoyment he had brought to the team.
