Breaking News: Paul Townend Rides I Am Maximus in the Randox Grand National
Paul Townend will ride I Am Maximus, while Mark Walsh has chosen to partner Limerick Lace. Owner JP McManus made these decisions as he finalised the riding plans for his five-strong team in Saturday's Randox Grand National.
The esteemed proprietor, JP McManus, has a rich history of triumphs in the premier steeplechase event. Notably, he granted AP McCoy his long-awaited initial victory aboard Don't Push It in 2010, followed by the momentous win of Minella Times ridden by Rachael Blackmore three years ago. These successes inspire hope for his future endeavours.
McManus is poised to have a strong presence at Aintree this weekend. Irish Grand National champion I Am Maximus, and his fellow Willie Mullins-trained contender Meetingofthewatersare among his top contenders.
Mark, showing his dedication and love for the sport, has never experienced the thrill of riding I am Maximus, so Paul will mount him. Faced with a challenging choice, as he also had a fondness for Meetingofthewaters at Cheltenham, Mark ultimately decided to go with the mare regardless, in the hopes that she would excel in the distance.
Berry mentioned that Keith Donoghue had secured the ride on Capodanno, the victorious horse in the Cotswold Chase, while Jody McGarvey will guide Janidil.
He stated: "All the horses are in excellent condition and will require some fortunate circumstances during the race. It is well-known that luck plays a significant role in the National, but we remain hopeful that they will perform admirably."
