Big Evs targets Breeders’ Cup following a fail at Ascot
Big Evs is likely to target a return to the Breeders’ Cup following a disappointing performance in the King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot. The sprinter, who won the Windsor Castle Stakes a year ago and triumphed in the Juvenile Sprint at the Breeders’ Cup, finished third behind Asfoora and Regional at Ascot.
Trainer Mick Appleby was pleased with Big Evs' effort, noting that the stiff finish at Ascot may not have suited the speedy colt. He plans to campaign the horse at tracks that favour speed, such as Del Mar. Jockey Tom Marquand praised Big Evs' performance and suggested that he may be better suited to quicker tracks like Goodwood.
Regional, trained by Ed Bethell, put in a strong performance at Ascot and may now target the July Cup at Newmarket. Despite the disappointment of finishing second, Bethell was proud of Regional's effort and remains optimistic about the horse's future.
