Big Evs Gears Up for Breeders’ Cup Finale
Mick Appleby is optimistic that Big Evs is primed for a strong showing at the Breeders’ Cup after a successful gallop under regular jockey Tom Marquand at Southwell. In his final British appearance, the son of Blue Point galloped over five furlongs, signalling his readiness for a last race in the Breeders’ Cup before retiring to stud.
Accompanied by stablemate Blind Beggar, Big Evs completed the gallop in preparation for his swan song at Del Mar, where he will aim to finish his stellar career on a high note. Appleby expressed confidence, stating, "He worked really well... it will have blown away the cobwebs," as Big Evs looks to make a bold bid in California following his successful three-year-old season.
Big Evs’ season highlights include victories at York and Goodwood, but Appleby believes there is still plenty left in the tank for one final flourish on the international stage. Marquand, who guided Big Evs to Breeders’ Cup glory in the Juvenile Turf last year, noted the horse is feeling fresh and ready for the upcoming challenge.
Joining Big Evs at Del Mar will be stablemate Big Mojo, another sprinter trained by Appleby and ridden by Marquand. After a promising workout at Southwell, both horses are expected to be in top form as they prepare to showcase their speed at the Breeders’ Cup in California.
