Because of his whip ban, Oisin Murphy will not be present at the Craven Meeting

Oisin Murphy has stated that he will be unable to attend the Craven Meeting due to a violation of the whip regulations during his race at Newcastle on Good Friday.

The jockey mentioned that he exceeded the allowed limit of six strikes with his whip by just one. He finished fifth on Vaguely Royal in the BetUK All-Weather Championships Marathon Handicap, with a margin of just over five lengths.

Murphy's original penalty was four days, but due to the immense importance of the race, it is now extended to eight days. However, two days were subtracted as a result of his commendable behaviour in the past.

In a recent post on X, Murphy expressed his deep regret for the incident, sharing that he received a six-day suspension due to exceeding the limit on Vaguely Royal during the Marathon on Good Friday, resulting in a fifth-place finish. 'I made an honest error, and I did not intentionally exceed the allowed usage of my whip,' he admitted. Given the substantial £150k prize money at stake in the race, his suspension should have lasted eight days. However, due to his impeccable track record of over 200 rides without a whip breach, the suspension has been shortened by two days.
