Bay City Roller Sidelined for Season with Classic Hopes for 2025
Unbeaten Champagne Stakes winner Bay City Roller will not race again this year, as connections opt to rest the promising colt ahead of a potential Classic campaign in 2025. Trained by George Scott, the juvenile had impressed with wins at Sandown and Chelmsford before his standout Group Two victory at Doncaster on St Leger day.
Although Bay City Roller held entries for the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere, Darley Dewhurst Stakes, and Futurity Trophy, Scott and his team decided to wrap up the season, focusing on his long-term development.
"We're really pleased with what he's achieved, but we want to avoid over-racing him this year," said Scott. "With his pedigree and physical maturity, we believe he'll be even better next year, and the dream of a Classic campaign is very much alive."
Looking ahead to 2025, Scott hinted at testing the son of New Bay in Derby trials early in the season, with potential starts in the Greenham Stakes or a Guineas.
"We want to determine if he's a Derby horse early on, rather than spend too much time figuring out his best trip," added Scott. Bay City Roller is currently available at 40-1 for next year's Derby.
