Barry Connell confirms Marine Nationale's Cheltenham prospects

Trainer Barry Connell has affirmed that his prized asset, Marine Nationale, remains firmly on track for the Arkle Novices' Chase at the upcoming Cheltenham Festival, despite a lacklustre performance earlier this month.

Marine Nationale, who dazzled spectators with a stunning victory in the Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at last season's prestigious event, showcased his talent by conquering the challenging hill and living up to the lofty expectations set by Connell.

After a flawless debut in chasing at Leopardstown during the Christmas period, the talented steed encountered a setback with a subpar display in the Irish Arkle at the same venue recently. Nevertheless, his trainer remains resolute in his belief in the horse as they gear up for a comeback at the Cotswolds.

Speaking about Marine Nationale's progress, Connell shared,

"Marine Nationale was spotted at Fairyhouse yesterday. We took both Cheltenham contenders, him and Enniskerry. Enniskerry is slated for the Grand Annual.

"We decided to take them both for an excursion. They underwent a light session, merely navigating the four fences up to Ballyhack, and now they are fully prepared. All that is left is some spring ground, and more often than not, Cheltenham delivers that."
