Angels Dawn Targets Another Victory in the Kim Muir Challenge Cup

Angels Dawn is set to make a comeback at the upcoming Cheltenham Festival in her quest to secure a Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup victory for the second consecutive year.

This follows an impressive performance in the Thyestes Chase last month, which many consider to be one of her finest showings to date.

Trainer Sam Curling enjoyed a memorable day last year when Angels Dawn triumphed over Gavin Cromwell's Stumptown in the amateur riders' competition. Despite finishing sixth in the Irish Grand National in her subsequent race, the nine-year-old mare showcased her top form at Gowran, finishing just over three lengths behind Thyestes winner Ain't That A Shame.

Looking ahead to the Festival, Curling has enlisted the expertise of skilled amateur jockey Patrick King to guide Angels Dawn once again. Reflecting on her recent performance, Curling remarked,

"She performed admirably at Gowran, demonstrating her affinity for soft ground. Despite the challenging conditions, she put in a commendable effort, especially considering the race dynamics. Her upcoming appearance at the Kim Muir promises to be tougher, as she will carry a higher weight this time. Nevertheless, she appears to be in good form and has shown improvement compared to last year."

While Angels Dawn also holds an entry in the Randox Grand National, she is currently positioned 66th in the handicap rankings. Given the reduced field size of 34 at Aintree, her chances of participating in the prestigious event seem slim. As a result, the focus remains squarely on preparing for a successful return at the Cheltenham Festival and potentially targeting future competitions at Punchestown.

Curling expressed confidence in Angels Dawn's readiness, stating,

"Given the circumstances, our focus is on Cheltenham followed by Punchestown. She is in good shape, and we are eager to see how she performs at the upcoming Festival."
