Andrew Balding is still thinking about Bellum Justum's next race

Bellum Justum, the son of Sea The Stars trained by Andrew Balding, impressed in the Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot, keeping his options open for future races.

Last year, he defeated Commonwealth Cup hero Inisherin and showed promise with a victory at Epsom in the Blue Riband Trial. Despite facing challenges in the Derby, he put in a solid effort at the Royal meeting, finishing third to Jayarebe.

Looking ahead, Bellum Justum may consider races over 12 furlongs such as the John Pearce Racing Gordon Stakes at Goodwood and the Sky Bet Great Voltigeur Stakes at York. Alternatively, he could remain at 10 furlongs if the right opportunity arises.

According to Alastair Donald, racing manager for owner King Power Racing, Bellum Justum was not at his best in the Derby due to minor issues. There is confidence that he will continue to progress and develop into a stronger competitor next year.

The decision on his next race is still to be determined, with options including the Steventon Stakes at Newbury or a step up to longer distances. Bellum Justum's ability to sustain his gallop suggests a potential move to 12 furlongs in the future, but plans are yet uncertain.
