Ancient Truth continued to build his impressive reputation by winning the bet365 Superlative Stakes at Newmarket, giving trainer Charlie Appleby his fifth victory in the race. Appleby had previously trained Boynton (2016), Quorto (2018), Master Of The Seas (2020), and Native Trail (2021) to Group One success after their wins in this Group Two event.
The son of Dubawi had shown promise in his first two starts at Newmarket and was the 4-6 favourite under jockey William Buick. Despite initially settling in fifth place, Ancient Truth made his move in the final furlongs and surged to the front easily, eventually crossing the finish line with a length and a half to spare.
Appleby and Buick completed a treble on the day, with Ancient Truth's win prompting Coral to shorten his odds for the 2000 Guineas next year. The trainer praised the horse's progress and expressed confidence in his ability to perform well over a mile distance.
Looking ahead, Appleby mentioned the possibility of aiming Ancient Truth towards the National Stakes in Ireland and emphasised the horse's preference for softer ground. He also acknowledged the input of jockey Shane Fetherstonhaugh and highlighted the horse's consistent improvement leading up to the race.
