Al Musmak's best performance brought a victory to Varian
Al Musmak reclaimed his career with a dominant win in the Edmondson Hall Solicitors Sir Henry Cecil Stakes at Newmarket. Six runners contested the one-mile Listed race, with Lead Artist the favourite at 6-4. Al Musmak had shown promise as a juvenile, but recent races had been disappointing. However, stepping back to a mile with jockey Silvestre de Sousa, the Roger Varian-trained colt showed his class to beat Kitty Rose and Lead Artist. Varian was pleased with the performance and planned to keep Al Musmak at this distance for future races.
In another race, Sergeant Wilko continued his sprinting success with a win in the Bet Boost At bet365 Handicap under Oisin Murphy. The Kevin Ryan-trained speedster has been on an upward trajectory and has three wins this year. Murphy also secured a treble with victories on Giavellotto and Sterling Knight in thrilling fashion.
Magic Mild, trained by Clive Cox, also tasted success in the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes with jockey Rossa Ryan. Cox was pleased with the filly's performance and hopes for more progress in future races.
