Connections of the promising filly Red Letter are taking a cautious approach this season. Trained by Ger Lyons and owned by Juddmonte, the daughter of Frankel made a strong debut at the Curragh, finishing a close second to Aidan O’Brien’s Lake Victoria despite some interference.

Lake Victoria's subsequent win in the Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket boosted the form, and Red Letter further impressed by securing a four-and-a-quarter-length maiden victory at the Curragh on her second attempt.

Despite her success, her team plans to take a measured approach to her development. Barry Mahon, European racing manager for Juddmonte, explained, “She’s a lovely filly and won her maiden impressively. She’s quite a big filly and still has room to mature. We’re considering only one or two more starts this year, depending on how she progresses.”

Mahon added that if they aim for a Group Three race at the end of the month, it could be an ideal scenario to evaluate her progress before her three-year-old campaign. “She has a lot of natural talent, but we want to avoid over-racing her this year as she is still immature,” he said.
