Added Bonus made a triumphant comeback at Thurles, replicating his previous year's triumph in the two-mile handicap chase.
The Jeremy gelding had experienced lacklustre performances in his recent hurdle outings. However, upon returning to the chasing discipline, he garnered significant support, causing his odds to shift from 10/1 to 5/1.
Skilfully guided by jockey Darragh O'Keeffe, Added Bonus launched a decisive challenge as they turned for home, narrowly seizing the lead from Joke Dancer in the approach to the final obstacle. Demonstrating exceptional endurance, the ten-year-old surged ahead during the final stretch, securing a commanding six-length victory over the 3/1 favourite, Mcgrath From Clune.
Notably, Joke Dancer trailed behind, finishing a length further back in third place. Trainer Brendan Walsh, who celebrated his inaugural win in this race with Added Bonus the previous year, expressed his elation, stating,
"This horse holds immense sentimental value for me as he presented me with my maiden triumph in this esteemed event last year. He possesses an unwavering spirit, excels in favourable ground conditions, and thrives when competing with renewed energy. I am absolutely delighted for his esteemed owners, Derry and Una Fitzpatrick, who proudly represent Kanturk. Despite his compact stature, Added Bonus consistently pours his heart into each race, necessitating a well-deserved respite of five to six weeks. Darragh showcased his exceptional riding skills in today's performance".
