Victorious at Punchestown, Tullyhill is now priced at 5-1 for the Festival opener.
Tullyhill may be headed for Cheltenham following an impressive victory at Punchestown in the Madigan Group Irish EBF Sheila Bourke Novice Hurdle. The six-year-old, who secured second place in last season's Champion Bumper at the Festival, had previously tasted success in a bumper race and a point-to-point event.
Despite a significant defeat on his hurdling debut in November, Tullyhill showcased improved jumping skills in his subsequent race at Naas where he triumphed by seven lengths in January. Under the guidance of jockey Paul Townend, the 6-5 favourite dominated the Listed event at Punchestown, winning by a comfortable nine-length margin with virtually no competition.
In the aftermath of his remarkable performance, Tullyhill's odds for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham have dropped to as low as 5-1 with Paddy Power. Trainer Willie Mullins mentioned that he will discuss the next steps with the owners, Cheveley Park Stud, before confirming a Cheltenham campaign.
Mullins expressed his satisfaction with Tullyhill's progress, crediting jockey David Casey for refining the horse's jumping technique. He commended Tullyhill's speed, noting that the horse, initially presumed to excel at long distances, has displayed impressive cruising speed coupled with improved jumping abilities.
Looking ahead, Mullins highlighted Tullyhill's eligibility for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle and indicated his intention to consult with connections to determine the best course of action for the talented horse.
