Trainer's support in hard times brings back Kyprios to the race

In 2022, the era of Stradivarius was coming to an end as a new star emerged in Kyprios. Trained by Aidan O’Brien, Kyprios defeated Stradivarius in the Gold Cup and went on to win the Goodwood Cup, the Irish St Leger, and the Prix du Cadran in a flawless campaign.

However, Kyprios suffered a serious injury to his fetlock which put his racing career, and possibly his life, in jeopardy. With the patience of his owners, the support of his trainer, and careful medical attention, Kyprios managed to recover and return to the track.

Despite doubts about his ability to race again, Kyprios showed his talent by finishing second in the Irish St Leger and the Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup last season. This year, he won the Listed Vintage Crop and Group Three Saval Beg races, proving that he was still a force to be reckoned with.

In a remarkable comeback, Kyprios went on to win the Gold Cup at Ascot as the favourite, defying the odds after his near-death experience. Trained to race again after having to learn how to walk, trot, and canter, Kyprios showed incredible resilience and determination.

Both Aidan O’Brien and Moyglare Stud, who bred and co-own Kyprios, expressed their amazement at his victory. O’Brien praised the dedication of everyone involved in Kyprios’ recovery, while Fiona Craig of Moyglare Stud highlighted the horse's fighting spirit.

Looking towards the future, Kyprios’ owners dream of more success on the track, knowing that he will always give his best despite the challenges he has overcome.
