Gavin Cromwell is preparing for Royal Ascot on Tuesday with My Mate Mozzie, slated to compete in the Copper Horse Handicap following a recent victory by Tonaghneave Well (10/3, from 9/2) in the Kilbeggan (Pro/Am) Flat Race under Declan Lavery.
After finishing fourth in his first two outings last month, Tonaghneave Well, a son of Berkshire, maintained a prominent position throughout the race and surged into the lead two furlongs from the finish, ultimately triumphing by nine lengths over the heavily backed favourite, Eoin's Charm.
Reflecting on the performance of Paul Kelly's four-year-old, Cromwell remarked, “Deccie gave him a superb ride. The pace suited him well, and he was positioned perfectly throughout. He showed a strong acceleration and sustained it right to the finish line."
“He's gained valuable experience and thrives on good summer ground. His progression has been steady, and I hope he continues to develop.”
This win sets a positive tone for Cromwell heading into Royal Ascot, with high hopes for My Mate Mozzie's performance in the upcoming race.
