Tiffany Narrowly Misses Victory in Munich

Tiffany faced heartbreak on Sunday when Assistent edged her out in the Grosser Allianz Preis von Bayern. The Farhh-sired filly, already a winner in Germany this season, aimed to follow the legacy of Sir Mark Prescott’s previous champions, Albanova in 2004 and Alpinista in 2021, by claiming victory in the Munich Group One race.

Fresh from a strong third-place finish behind Kalpana in the British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes at Ascot, Luke Morris positioned Tiffany prominently in the early stages. She ran alongside other British-trained competitors, including Charlie Appleby’s Ancient Wisdom and David Menuisier’s War Chimes, with the latter setting a swift pace under Billy Loughnane.

As they entered the final stretch, Tiffany and Ancient Wisdom appeared set to battle for the win. However, just as Tiffany pulled ahead of the Godolphin-owned Ancient Wisdom, she was overtaken at the last moment by local favourite Assistent, guided to victory by Thore Hammer Hansen.

Dan Downie of Elite Racing expressed pride in Tiffany’s performance, acknowledging her close finish and praising Morris’s strategic ride. He noted that Tiffany had sustained a strong gallop to the line but was narrowly beaten by Assistent’s inside move. Despite the loss, Downie remained optimistic, pointing out that Tiffany’s impressive race left little reason for disappointment.

While Tiffany’s quest for a Group One win this season has concluded, she will return under the guidance of Heath House’s master trainer next year, continuing her pursuit for a top-tier title. Downie shared his hopes for 2025, highlighting Tiffany’s remarkable consistency and resilience at the highest level. With her strong build and unwavering effort, he expressed confidence that she could improve further and make another serious bid for Group One glory.
