The seven-day Galway Festival kicks off this evening with the Connacht Hotel Qualified Riders Handicap, the highlight of a seven-race card featuring a prize pool of €110,000, beginning at 4:50 PM.
The Mullins family is well-positioned in the betting for the two-mile feature on day one, with Emmet preparing Teed Up and his uncle Willie entering the favoured Lot Of Joy.
Teed Up, who triumphed in this race last year, races in the colours of Annette Mee, who is also represented by the course winner Enfranchise.
Pinot Gris, a two-time Flat winner last season and successful at Bellewstown this spring, arrives after a strong performance in the Dubai Duty Free Irish EBF Ragusa Handicap at the Curragh on Irish Derby day.
"He had a great run last time at the Curragh, and I’m hopeful he has a good chance. I think the ground will be perfect for him; anything other than fast ground should suit,” trainer Gavin Cromwell told broadcaster Dave Keena.
Currently, the going on the Flat track is Yielding, while it is Good to Good to Yielding in some areas for National Hunt racing.
