Springtime Promise's Journey of Success Continues

Fergal O'Brien's Springtime Promise continued its impressive run by securing a commanding victory in the prestigious Jane Seymour Mares' Novices' Hurdle at Sandown.

Under the guidance of jockey Connor Brace, the experienced bay mare showcased her talent, having previously achieved success in point-to-point racing for Gary McGill. The transfer to O'Brien's stable proved fruitful, as she made a winning debut at Huntingdon in January, followed by another triumph at Sedgefield later that month.

Displaying her versatility, Springtime Promise stepped up to Grade Two company for the Weatherbys Cheltenham Festival Betting Guide-sponsored Jane Seymour. Despite starting at 11-1, she delivered an exceptional performance in the field of seven, exhibiting flawless jumps and a powerful surge towards the finish line. With a three-length victory, she extended her winning streak to an impressive five consecutive races, both in regulated competitions and beyond.

O'Brien expressed his satisfaction, stating, "Her form from Huntingdon really held up well, and today's race was perfect for her. She jumped and travelled with great finesse, displaying remarkable maturity. We couldn't be happier with her performance". He further praised Springtime Promise's straightforward nature, honesty, and potential, pointing attention to her immense talent and ease of handling.

The victory has positioned Springtime Promise as a strong contender for the Ryanair Mares' Novices' Hurdle at the upcoming Cheltenham Festival. Reflecting her growing reputation, Betfair has adjusted her odds from 50-1 to 33-1 for the race. Notably, the winners of the Jane Seymour have triumphed in the Ryanair Mares' Novices' Hurdle for the past two years.

Looking ahead, O'Brien shared his excitement for the future, saying, "I'm thrilled for the Keeping The Dream Alive syndicate. We'll carefully assess the ground conditions at Cheltenham and chart our next steps accordingly". With Springtime Promise's remarkable potential, her journey promises to be an intriguing one.

In other highlights from the race card, Dan Skelton's Etalon caught the attention of onlookers with a dominant performance in the Team Forces "Ubique" Handicap Chase. Guided by jockey Harry Skelton, the 4-6 favourite triumphed by a staggering nine lengths. This victory adds to Etalon's burgeoning chasing career, which commenced with a debut win at Newbury, followed by a successful outing in a Warwick novice race in January.

Discussing Etalon's future plans, Skelton revealed, "For now, we believe he is best suited for two-mile races. Considering all factors, we have decided to skip the Cheltenham Festival and target the Grade One novice chase at Aintree, specifically the Maghull Novices' Chase. We aim to set high standards and create a lasting impact. If he falls short of a Grade One victory, he will have future opportunities to participate in the Grand Annual".

The Castel Royal Artillery Gold Cup witnessed Major Will Kellard's triumphant ride on Jamie Snowden's Farceur Du Large, securing victory by an impressive six-and-a-half lengths. Emerging as the 13-8 favourite, the winning horse showcased its strength and determination. The race's climax offered a thrilling spectacle as Fil D'Ariane's fall hindered Broken Halo, clearing the path for the grey gelding to gallop home victoriously. Farceur Du Large's triumph in this race adds another accolade to his remarkable record, following his Grand Military Gold Cup title.
