Sparks Fly Scheduled for Lincoln Appearance

The upcoming season looks promising for Sparks Fly as she gears up to start her campaign at the prestigious Pertemps Network Lincoln, following an exceptional year that saw her clinch an impressive eight victories.

Bred and owned by Dave Lowe, this four-year-old sensation made a remarkable transition from all-weather racing to turf last spring. Starting with a modest rating of 59, Sparks Fly quickly ascended the rankings by achieving six consecutive wins under the skilful guidance of jockeys Rossa Ryan and later Laura Pearson.

Although she faced a setback in the Lyric Stakes at York over an extended mile and a quarter, Sparks Fly swiftly returned to form with a convincing performance at Haydock. Her remarkable journey culminated in a stunning 12-length victory at the Listed Prix Isola Bella at Saint-Cloud in October, where she dominated the race from start to finish.

However, the subsequent Prix Tantieme at the same venue did not yield the desired outcome, with Sparks Fly finishing sixth in a race that her connections deemed one too many in an otherwise stellar campaign.

Trainer David Loughnane reflected on the exceptional season, stating, "She was a true standard-bearer for us, emerging as the most successful horse in Britain. Starting with a rating of 59 and ending on 107 was truly exceptional." Loughnane admitted that the Saint-Cloud race proved to be one too many, acknowledging that the filly seemed slightly off her game on the day.

Having returned from her winter break, Sparks Fly is now gearing up for a return at the Lincoln at Doncaster, marking the official commencement of the Flat season in Britain. Known for her preference for testing ground conditions, the filly is likely to be campaigned in two stages, with a strategic break in between to avoid overly firm ground during the summer months.

Loughnane shared,

"She has had a good winter break, but she doesn't like to stay idle for long. Our focus is on the Lincoln, provided all goes smoothly, and the ground conditions are favourable."

Looking ahead, the plan is to campaign Sparks Fly in the first half of the season, give her a well-deserved break, and then resume her racing activities in the latter part of the year. Loughnane added,

"Given the unpredictable English weather, we need to remain flexible and adapt to whatever conditions come our way."
