Sound Angela secured a victory at Yarmouth

Sound Angela claimed victory at Yarmouth in the EBF Stallions John Musker Fillies’ Stakes, with Roger Varian’s mare starting at 17-2 in a field of 14 under Silvestre de Sousa. This 10-furlong race was familiar territory for the five-year-old, who had finished fourth in the same event in 2022.

Having maintained strong performances at Listed level without a win, she had placed in both turf races in France and all-weather contests in England. After starting from stall seven, she travelled well and began making her move three furlongs from home, taking the lead at the furlong marker and holding off a challenge from the fast-finishing Naomi Lapaglia to win by half a length.

De Sousa praised her performance, stating, "She responded to every effort and showed a good, willing attitude today. Roger places his horses well, and she’s a nice filly with more to give. This trip suits her, and she shows a good turn of foot when the pace is right."

In the British EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes, Clive Cox-trained Hold A Dream (5-2) secured her first victory after two runner-up finishes, leading from the start under Rossa Ryan and holding off Dash Of Azure by a length and a half. Ryan noted, "She did it well and deserved to get her head in front. I believe she’ll get further in time, but a stiffer six furlongs would suit her now."

Ryan Moore celebrated his 41st birthday with a double, winning aboard the impressive Juddmonte two-year-old Nightwalker and James Webb (3-1) in the Goffs Orby Handicap, both trained by the retiring Sir Michael Stoute. Assistant trainer James Savage commented on James Webb’s performance, highlighting his preference for fast ground and level tracks. "He’s a horse with a future," he said. "Nightwalker is also learning and ran well today; he could be a very nice horse over a mile and a quarter."
