Sixandahalf`s triumph at Cork

After a treble in the jumps at Punchestown earlier in the afternoon, trainer Gavin Cromwell won the Mallow Fillies Maiden at Cork with Sixandahalf, capping a four-timer.

Inside the last furlong, the daughter of Snow Sky, who had won a bumper at the Punchestown Festival last month, smartly sped up to make her debut on the level.

By doing this, she decisively broke past form with 6/5f Familiar Dreams, who had defeated her in their meeting at the County Kildare course following National Hunt regulations.

The latter appeared certain to be involved after taking the lead early in the straight but Cancelled a rookie, passed her as soon as she reached the front and passed her on the rail.

After Cancelled scored the first run, Gary Carroll had to temporarily push forward even though he was down the outside with plenty of running on Sixandahalf.

The eventual winner picked up nicely, drawing alongside and winning easily by a length and three quarters.

Winning jockey Gary Carroll said: "She didn't ride like a bumper horse and while she relaxed lovely and went to sleep, she came alive very quickly up the straight and I had to 'whoa' her. She had plenty of gear and is a nice filly going forward. I had gears today but that was a maiden and a 1m4f would be a different story. She isn't slow but does stay two miles on heavy ground, which could land her into a good (flat) handicap. I'm going to try and pick races for her, so Gavin doesn't find jump races!"
