In the upcoming Grade 2, $200,000 Joe Hernandez Stakes at Santa Anita, Phil D'Amato's Irish-bred Balnikhov is a prominent contender. The race, spanning approximately 6 1/2 furlongs on the hillside turf course, will see a field of a dozen horses aged three and older.

Balnikhov's Impressive Track Record

Balnikhov, finishing a close third in the Seabiscuit Handicap (G2) over 1 1 1/16 miles at Del Mar, is set to try the hillside course for the first time. The two-time graded-stakes grass winner, guided by jockey Antonio Fresu, has consistently performed in a range of turf stakes races.
