Ryan Moore's 80th win at Ascot

Ryan Moore rode Illinois to victory in the Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot, earning his 80th win at the prestigious event and positioning Illinois as a strong contender for the St Leger. Trained by Aidan O'Brien, the Galileo colt finished second in the Lingfield Derby Trial before taking the lead from long-time front-runner Mr Hampstead. Despite a challenge from stablemate Highbury, Illinois crossed the finish line 1 1/4 lengths ahead, with Birdman coming in third.

O'Brien praised Moore's decision to ride Illinois and noted the horse's potential for improvement as he matures. He highlighted Illinois as a middle-distance horse with the ability to excel in longer races. Equalling Sir Henry Cecil's record of eight Queen's Vase wins, O'Brien emphasised the importance of teamwork in his stable's success.

Regarding Highbury, O'Brien acknowledged the horse's young age and predicted further development as a potential St Leger competitor. Both Illinois and Highbury are seen as horses with the ability to quicken up in races like the Leger. O'Brien expressed gratitude for the collaborative effort that goes into breeding and training successful racehorses.
