Running Lion's triumph at Ascot

Running Lion successfully held off a late challenge from stablemate Laurel to win the Duke of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot. Despite a disappointing performance in her previous race, Running Lion, ridden by Oisin Murphy, took control of the race from the front and won by two lengths. Laurel finished in second place, making it a one-two for trainers John and Thady Gosden.

John Gosden praised Laurel's performance, mentioning her past setbacks and bad luck in previous races. Oisin Murphy also commented on Running Lion's race strategy and praised her for maintaining a strong lead throughout the race. Owner David Howden expressed his joy in Running Lion's victory, especially as she is the offspring of the late Roaring Lion.

Barry Mahon, European racing manager for Laurel's owners, Juddmonte, was pleased with Laurel's second-place finish and hinted at a possible entry in the Falmouth Stakes. Trainer William Haggas also praised third-placed Doom for her strong performance and hinted at a possible step up to Group One level races in the future.
