Jerome Reynier relies on quality rather than quantity as he seeks his first UK victory with Facteur Cheval and Darlinghurst at Royal Ascot. The Marseille-based trainer is set to field Zarakem in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes, but he believes his best chance lies with Facteur Cheval and Darlinghurst on the opening day of the prestigious event.
Facteur Cheval has been a standout performer for Reynier, securing a Group One victory in the Dubai Turf at Meydan earlier this year. The form of that race has been validated by subsequent results, including a win by Godolphin’s Measured Time in America. Reynier is optimistic about Facteur Cheval’s chances in the Queen Anne Stakes, confident in the horse’s ability to compete at the highest level.
On the other hand, Darlinghurst is unbeaten in four starts as a three-year-old and has impressed Reynier with his performances. The trainer believes the colt’s turn of foot will be a key asset in the St James’s Palace Stakes, where he will face tough competition.
Reynier, who has chosen to remain in the warmer climate of southern France rather than move his training operation to Paris, is excited about the prospect of success at Ascot. He recalls previous trips to the UK for big races with fondness and is looking forward to enjoying the experience this time.
With high expectations for his talented runners, Reynier is hopeful that Royal Ascot will be the stage for his breakthrough victory in Britain.
