Premier Racing is going to boost in minimum prize money

For the 2025 fixture list, Flat jockeys will enjoy an earlier post-season break, and Premier Racing fixtures will see a boost in minimum prize money.

The British Horseracing Authority's two-year trial, aimed at enhancing the sport’s competitiveness and commercial success, continues with minimal changes to the fixture volume. Eight races will be integrated into existing meetings, maintaining overall race numbers.

Premier Race Days will have increased prize money: £275,000 for Flat race days with no race under £22,000, and £220,000 for Jumps races with no race under £16,500.

Sunday racing will see further expansion, though the trial for Sunday evening races has been discontinued. Flat jockeys will now have a post-season break starting after the November Handicap, extending to 11 days with rider-restricted meetings for those with fewer than 30 winners in the previous year.

Richard Wayman, BHA’s director of racing, emphasised that the 2025 changes aim to improve the quality and engagement in racing while providing more planning time for connections. The increased prize money and Sunday racing enhancements are expected to benefit the sport, though significant changes will be considered after the trial concludes.
