Pana To Milan Triumphs at Thurles with Burke-Ott in the Saddle

Pana To Milan, under the guidance of jockey Luke Burke-Ott, secured a well-deserved victory at Thurles.

The Sageburg mare, ridden by the young talent Burke-Ott, showcased her prowess in the qualified riders' handicap chase, marking a significant milestone for both horse and jockey.

Taking charge of the race, Pana To Milan surged ahead on the approach to the home bend, displaying remarkable stamina and speed. Despite a slight stumble after clearing the final fence, the mare maintained her composure, leaving behind the competition in the final stretch. Moonlight Getaway, the 7/2 favourite, trailed in second place, unable to match the impressive performance of the victorious duo.

Trainer Michael Winters expressed his delight at the mare's success, highlighting the potential of both Pana To Milan and Burke-Ott. Winters commended the young jockey's skills and dedication, foreseeing a promising future if he continues to hone his craft through rigorous training and experience.

Reflecting on the race and the team's recent endeavours, Winters shared insights into their training regimen and plans for the future. With a strategic move to a new training facility, the team aims to focus on quality over quantity, ensuring a more streamlined approach to their racing pursuits.

Burke-Ott, following in the footsteps of his elder brother Andy, who triumphed in the same race the previous year, expressed his satisfaction with the race's outcome. The 18-year-old rider, a regular at Mick Winters' yard, executed his race strategy flawlessly, culminating in a memorable victory for Pana To Milan.

This victory over fences adds another feather to Pana To Milan's cap, complementing her previous hurdle success at Fairyhouse in January last year. As the team looks towards future challenges and opportunities, the synergy between horse and rider promises an exciting journey ahead in the world of racing.
