Paisley Park, the star hurdler, has transitioned smoothly into retirement following an illustrious career that came to an end earlier this year. The 12-year-old, who was a key member of Emma Lavelle’s yard, achieved 11 victories and nearly £750,000 in prize money for owner Andrew Gemmell. In 31 races, he placed in the top three 25 times, becoming a beloved name in National Hunt racing.
His notable wins include four victories at Cheltenham, including the prestigious 2019 Stayers’ Hurdle and three Cleeve Hurdle titles. Paisley Park also dominated the Long Walk Hurdle, claiming the Grade One championship three times.
After his final race at this year’s Festival, where he finished 10th in the Stayers’ Hurdle, Paisley Park was retired by his connections. He has since enjoyed a leisurely retirement at Lavelle’s Wiltshire base, where he will remain until the end of summer before embarking on a new career.
Lavelle spoke of Paisley Park’s contentment in retirement, noting his relaxed demeanour and appreciation for his new lifestyle. She mentioned that he would soon be retrained for a different role and shared Andrew Gemmell’s plans to move him to a new location post-summer.
As Paisley Park settles into retirement, his former connections are grateful for his many successful seasons and look forward to witnessing the next chapter of his life.
