O'Meara goes for high-profile options for Lava Stream

Following her narrow defeat at Royal Ascot, Lava Stream, trained by David O'Meara, is now considering high-profile options such as the Nassau Stakes and Yorkshire Oaks.

The filly has shown significant improvement since her juvenile campaign, winning in handicap company at Doncaster and stepping up to Listed class at Goodwood. In the Group Two Ribblesdale Stakes, she put in a strong effort but was narrowly beaten by Port Fairy.

Stud manager Gary Moore, a part of Lava Stream’s journey from foaling, is excited about her future. He mentioned potential plans for the Nassau Stakes, Yorkshire Oaks, and the Fillies & Mares race at Ascot. While there was talk of supplementing for the Irish Oaks, they are currently focusing on the Nassau and the Yorkshire Oaks.

Lava Stream’s performance is a boost for Elwick Stud, founded by the late Geoff Turnbull. Her dam, Stream Song, is still producing at Sheraton Farm in County Durham. Moore also spoke highly of a Sea The Stars yearling colt and a Baaeed foal, hinting at more promising prospects from the stud.
