Olly Murphy's Confidence in Go Dante's Handicap Victory, Potential Stops at Kelso, Sandown, or Aintree

Olly Murphy is confident Go Dante can secure another handicap victory.

Racing enthusiasts are keeping a close eye on Go Dante following his commendable third-place finish in Newbury’s Betfair Hurdle. Trainer Olly Murphy remains optimistic about the eight-year-old's prospects, believing he can clinch another handicap prize before the season draws to a close.

Go Dante had triumphed over Doddiethegreat at Cheltenham in a stellar performance before Christmas. However, his recent outing at Newbury saw him narrowly edged out by Iberico Lord from Seven Barrows and L’Eau Du Sud from Dan Skelton, two formidable contenders in what is considered one of the most fiercely competitive events of the season.

Looking ahead, Go Dante is set to continue his quest for glory in prominent Saturday handicaps as his connections aim to amass further successes before transitioning to a novice chasing campaign in the upcoming season.

An upcoming challenge for Go Dante could be Kelso’s bet365 Morebattle Hurdle on March 2, with the Imperial Cup at Sandown the following week also being a potential target. Another option under consideration is waiting until Aintree’s Grand National meeting to showcase his talents.

Reflecting on Go Dante's performance, Murphy expressed satisfaction, noting,

“He ran really well but was up against horses with superior handicaps. Despite this setback, his consistent form this season is promising, and the focus now is to pinpoint the right race for his next outing”.

With entries for both the Morebattle and Imperial Cup, Murphy is carefully evaluating the best course of action for his improving steed. While the decision between these events or the Aintree showcase remains undecided, Murphy is confident in Go Dante's development, remarking,

“He is showing progress, and though he may be advancing in age, his potential as a future fence jumper is undeniable.”

Go Dante is currently priced at 14-1 for the Morebattle Hurdle, with odds as short as 10-1 offered by William Hill for those eager to place their bets.
