Nashwan had a remarkable year with 4 wins in the season

In 1989, Nashwan had a truly remarkable year, winning the 2000 Guineas, Derby, Coral-Eclipse, and King George - a feat unmatched by any other horse in the same season. His ability to excel in races ranging from one mile to a mile and a half demonstrated his exceptional talent. Despite a disappointing end to his career with a defeat in the Prix Niel, Nashwan's legacy as a special and versatile horse was cemented.

Prepared for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe by trainer Major Dick Hern, Nashwan took on the French trial but could only manage a third-place finish before retiring from racing. A defining moment in his career was his valiant effort in the Eclipse, where he chased down a pacemaker with such vigour that he never fully recovered. Despite winning the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes, he was never able to regain his former glory.

Controversially, some rankings did not place Nashwan as the top three-year-old that season, but his impressive performances speak for themselves. His trainer and team attribute his decline to the intense demands placed on him early in his career. Following his retirement, Elmaamul would carry on the tradition of success for the same ownership, winning the Eclipse and showcasing his fighting spirit.

Years later, in 2014, Mukhadram brought victory in the Eclipse once again for the same connections. A consistent and resilient horse, Mukhadram progressed from handicaps to win at the highest level. His victory in the Eclipse as a five-year-old was a well-deserved triumph after years of hard work and dedication.

The legacy of Nashwan, Elmaamul, and Mukhadram stands as a testament to the enduring success and perseverance of these remarkable racehorses.
