Coco Masterpiece successfully fended off a strong late charge from stablemate Fishery Land, as renowned trainer Willie Mullins clinched an impressive top-three sweep in the thrilling closing bumper event at Thurles this afternoon.
With three entrants in the race, Mullins' dominance was evident, with Coco Masterpiece making a comeback after a substantial hiatus and emerging as the frontrunner with odds of 4/5. The Authorised-bred gelding, expertly guided by jockey Charlie Mullins, displayed an early burst of energy, swiftly contending for the lead.
Seizing control along the back straight, Coco Masterpiece unleashed a powerful effort and gallantly maintained its position, even as Fishery Lane, a promising debutant, showcased a commendable surge to finish within a mere half-length of the victor. Notably, another newcomer, Ballygunner Castle, secured a respectable third place, trailing two lengths behind.
Reflecting on the extraordinary performance, the triumphant rider shared,
"Despite his initial exuberance, Coco Masterpiece exhibited remarkable endurance. While encountering a minor incident at the start involving John Ryan's Foildarrig, we swiftly recovered and harnessed the advantage as we descended downhill. With its imposing stature and extensive training in four-year-old point-to-point races, Coco Masterpiece undeniably possesses immense potential for a bright and prosperous future”.
