Mqse De Sevigne maintained her unbeaten streak with a triumphant defence of her Prix Rothschild title at Deauville.
Last year, the top-class mare from André Fabre narrowly defeated stablemate Life In Motion to claim the Group One prize. This time, she was the clear favourite, guided by Alexis Pouchin.
In her first race since narrowly defeating Horizon Dore in the Prix d’Ispahan at ParisLongchamp in late May, Mqse De Sevigne travelled strongly in midfield throughout the straight-mile contest. As the race entered the final furlong, she made her decisive move.
Although Excellent Truth briefly posed a challenge near the stands rail, Mqse De Sevigne surged ahead to win comfortably, with Pouchin standing in the stirrups to acknowledge the cheering crowd.
Irish runners Rogue Millennium and Ocean Jewel, trained by Joseph O’Brien and Willie McCreery, finished third and fourth, respectively, while Blue Rose Cen delivered another disappointing performance.
The victory could see Mqse De Sevigne stepping up to a mile and a half for the first time, to secure André Fabre’s ninth Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe win in October. Coral has shortened her odds for the prestigious race to 20-1 from 25-1.
