Moore together with Wigmore Street triumphed at Curragh

Ryan Moore delivered a stunning last-to-first ride aboard Wigmore Street to win the Paddy Power Supporting Cancer Trials Irish Cambridgeshire at Curragh. Trained by Joseph O’Brien, the 22-1 shot had been at the back of the field but stormed home on the stands rail to secure victory by a head and a nose in a thrilling finish against State Actor and Independent Expert.

O’Brien praised the ride, noting Wigmore Street’s preference for being covered up rather than leading. Future plans include either another handicap or a Listed race. O’Brien had hoped for Ascot but faced a setback, making this win particularly sweet.

Earlier, Moore completed a four-timer with victories on Dreamy, Ides Of March in juvenile Group Threes, and Acapulco Bay in the Kara Quinn Memorial Irish EBF (C&G) Maiden. Acapulco Bay, the 2-11 favourite, won by a length and three-quarters, showing impressive progression from his debut.

Moore, however, was beaten on Sweet Chariot in the FBD Hotels And Resorts Faithlegg Hotel Nursery Handicap, where Johnny Murtagh-trained King Thistle (6-1) took the win under 16-year-old Patrick McGettigan. McGettigan, in his fourth ride, celebrated his first victory with a memorable performance.
