Maw Lam is set to race in Cheveley Park

Adrian Nicholls is contemplating a quick return to action for Maw Lam in the Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes following her narrow defeat at Ayr on Saturday.

The daughter of Acclamation, who finished third in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot, had a disappointing outing in the Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster but bounced back with a strong performance in Scotland, finishing just a neck behind Sky Majesty in the Group Three Firth of Clyde Stakes.

With the season winding down, options for Maw Lam are limited, but she does hold an entry at Group One level on the Rowley Mile this Saturday if her connections decide to take a chance.

"It was a really good run, and I’m very pleased with her. The race at Doncaster was just a blip, and now we’re right back on track," Nicholls said.

"Jamie Spencer looked after her at Doncaster, which allowed us to back her up, and she performed brilliantly. It’s always frustrating to finish second, but every race is competitive, and I’m just glad she showed she can handle six furlongs well. He’s earned more black type, and I’m determined to win a stakes race in this country sooner or later!"

He continued: "With the season coming to an end, I’m not sure if we’ll have one more go. I haven’t spoken to Chris (Hirst, owner) about it yet, but she is still in the Cheveley Park. I’m uncertain about the ground conditions, as they can be quite changeable. I don’t think she’d want really testing ground. We’ll see how she feels and discuss whether to go for the Cheveley Park; if not, that may wrap up her season."
