Leading a new ownership syndicate will be Jeremy Clarkson

With The Hawkstonian, a horse named after his own beer brand, TV host Jeremy Clarkson has taken an initial step towards owning a racehorse.

The 64-year-old, who is best known for hosting Top Gear, The Grand Tour, and the popular film Clarkson's Farm, will serve as the leader of Hawkstone Racing, a collaboration between Old Gold Racing, a syndicate, and Clarkson's Hawkstone Brewery.

The grey son of Jukebox Jury, Hawkstonian, is trained by Ben Pauling in Gloucestershire and is scheduled to make his racecourse debut in October or later this month.

Clarkson stated: “I said to the Hawkstone team that we should get into racing but clearly they got motor racing and horse racing confused! That said, Ben Pauling is a stone’s throw from Diddly Squat Farm and the Hawkstone Brewery, so I know where my hay is going.

“Furthermore, the Pauling family originally farmed our land and taught Kaleb (Cooper of Clarkson’s Farm fame) all he knows about farming.”

On April 22, the Hawkstonian will be up for private sale to Hawkstonians, who are also members of the club, and on April 23, it will be placed on a waiting list for Old Gold Racing. 3,250 shares are up for grabs in the open sale, which begins on April 25 and is priced at £60 a share for a 14-month duration.

The chief of Old Gold Racing, Ed Seyfried, stated: “We are honoured to be powering the inaugural Hawkstone Racing syndicate. Jeremy has helped transform views of agriculture with his hit television show and we are looking forward to welcoming him on the racing scene this coming season.

Pauling mentioned: “I look forward to educating Jeremy and his Hawkstone members about all things horseracing and I hope The Hawkstonian is as fast as the plug-in hybrid Ferrari SF90 XX Stradale!”
