In an exciting turn of events at the Irish EBF Median Sires Series Race at Killarney, Green Triangle lost out on victory after crashing through the running rail, allowing Ballydoyle newcomer Lambourn to take the win.
Trained by Joseph O'Brien, Green Triangle led halfway through the mile race as the 11/10 favourite. However, a misstep inside the final furlong caused the horse to crash through the railing, narrowly missing the winning post before re-entering the course.
Lambourn, ridden by Wayne Lordan, looked poised to finish second before the unexpected turn of events handed them the victory. The Aidan O'Brien-trained winner, a 6/1 shot, is an Australia colt out of Queen Mary runner-up Gossamer Wings.
Reflecting on the race, stable representative Chris Armstrong acknowledged the eventful nature of the win but expressed confidence in Lambourn's potential as a middle-distance horse for the following year. Despite a slow start and initial travel issues, Lambourn showed promise in the final furlongs and displayed a good attitude typical of his sire. Armstrong expects Lambourn to improve significantly from this race and believes he will excel in upcoming two-year-old races over a mile.
