The Prix du Cadran looks like the next likely destination for star stayer Kyprios.
Aidan O’Brien’s charge delivered an unforgettable performance at ParisLongchamp two years ago, winning by an impressive 20 lengths despite veering across the track in the home stretch. That victory capped a remarkable season in which he also secured the Gold Cup, Goodwood Cup, and Irish St Leger. Although he faced challenges last year after recovering from a serious injury, he has rebounded spectacularly, reclaiming all three titles this season.
After his recent win at the Curragh, O’Brien didn’t dismiss the idea of Kyprios contesting the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe on October 6, but it seems more likely he will remain on the staying path the day before.
Fiona Craig, racing adviser for part-owners Moyglare Stud Farm, commented: "I believe he’s aiming for the Cadran, provided everything goes well. With Kyprios, it often depends on how he feels a couple of days before the race. I don’t anticipate him running in the Arc; I think it’ll be either the Cadran or the Long Distance Cup at Ascot. The longer the distance, the better for him. Following his injury, we just need to monitor his condition in the days leading up to the race. I visited him with Eva (Maria Bucher-Haefner, Moyglare owner) after the Leger win, and he seemed to be in good shape."
"The goal is to bring him back next year and aim for the Gold Cup again. He suffered an injury last year but came back to run two commendable races, and he’s definitely a stronger horse now. One day, there may be another horse that can beat him, but for now, there isn’t."
