Kinross will race in the Park Stakes

Kinross is likely to target the Park Stakes at Doncaster as his next race after connections opted to skip a hat-trick attempt at York last weekend.

Ralph Beckett's seasoned seven-year-old was set to compete for a third consecutive win in the Group Two City of York Stakes but was withdrawn due to unsuitable ground conditions.

Despite three starts this season, Kinross, a dual Group One winner, has yet to add to his tally of 10 career victories. His most recent outing was a third-place finish in the Lennox Stakes at Goodwood last month.

Owner Marc Chan is taking a cautious approach with Kinross. Although he is entered in the Sprint Cup at Haydock on September 7, the seven-furlong Group Two at Doncaster the following Saturday – a race Kinross won in 2022 with Frankie Dettori aboard – is currently the preferred option.

Jamie McCalmont, Chan’s racing manager, explained, "The decision not to run at York was entirely due to the ground conditions. It was disappointing, but Marc is very keen not to race him on extreme ground. We have an older horse here who’s already given us so much."

Looking ahead, McCalmont sees no reason why Kinross shouldn't continue racing next season if he maintains his enthusiasm.

He concluded, "Every race at this stage is a bonus. If you saw him at Goodwood, he was full of energy. As long as he remains fit and keen, there’s no reason we can’t keep him racing next year."
