King Turgeon and Gaboriot are set to renew their rivalry in the Boylesports Becher Handicap Chase at Aintree on Saturday, with 17 contenders confirmed for the race.
The pair recently clashed in the Grand Sefton, where King Turgeon claimed victory over the Grand National fences, while Gaboriot finished third. This weekend’s extended three-and-a-quarter-mile contest will provide a fresh challenge for both horses.
Top weight is carried by Gordon Elliott’s Coko Beach, last year’s Becher runner-up, while defending champion Chambard also returns for Venetia Williams. Other notable entries include Kim Bailey’s Chianti Classico, an impressive winner at Ascot, and Philip Hobbs and Johnson White’s seasoned campaigner Celebre d’Allen.
The 12-year-old Celebre d’Allen, owned by Allan Stennett, recently notched his ninth career victory at Bangor and continues to thrive despite his age. Handed a 7lb rise in the handicap, his connections are eyeing the Grand National in April.
"At 12, I can't think he's improving, but he's certainly not deteriorating," said White. "He loves Aintree and thrives on the Grand National circuit. We’re lucky to have him."
Other possible challengers include Grand Sefton fourth Richmond Lake, alongside Fantastic Lady, Monte Igueldo, Regal Blue, Major Dundee, Now Where Or When, Your Own Story, and Percussion.
With a mix of proven experience and promising form, the Becher Chase promises another thrilling spectacle over the iconic Grand National fences.
