Joanna Mason is set to make her second appearance at the Shergar Cup

Joanna Mason will make her second appearance at the Shergar Cup, stepping in as a replacement for Saffie Osborne.

Osborne was initially slated to be part of the Ladies Team alongside captain Hayley Turner and Group One winner Marie Velon. The Ladies Team emerged victorious in the competition last year.

However, due to other riding commitments, Osborne withdrew from the event on Tuesday morning, prompting the call-up of Mason as her replacement.

Mason previously participated in the Shergar Cup in 2022, where she rode one winner.

Ascot Racecourse announced on Twitter that Saffie Osborne would no longer be competing in the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup due to other riding commitments on Saturday. Joanna Mason will replace her in the Ladies Team.

Osborne informed Sky Sports Racing that she needs to attend Haydock to ride Ed Walker's promising filly, American Arrow, in the Dick Hern. Consequently, she will miss the Shergar Cup, an event she enjoyed last year and hopes to participate in again in the future.

She reflected on her previous experience: “It was a fantastic experience last year. With good rides, it’s a lot of fun, and winning with Hayley and Hollie (Doyle) was a highlight.”
