Jayarebe shows confidence to be a winner at Royal Ascot

Jayarebe looks to tee himself up for an appearance at Royal Ascot with a strong performance in the Boodles Raindance Dee Stakes at Chester.

After winning his July Course debut the previous summer, Brian Meehan's charge continued to perform admirably, finishing seventh in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere on Arc weekend at Paris Longchamp behind Rosallion.

The Zoffany colt made his three-year-old debut at the Craven meeting in Newmarket when he won the Feilden Stakes. Now, after a dominant victory, he is going to the Roodee to try and win straight Listed races.

“I’m very happy with him, he’s in great shape and this is a very natural next step for him timing-wise, so it makes sense,” said Meehan. “He looks like he’s come on for the run at Newmarket and improved. It’s only his third run, so we’re expecting more from him really.”

Although Jayarebe's trainer is keen to stay with a mile and a quarter for the time being, he is not entered in the Dee Stakes at Epsom, even though it is regarded as a valid trial for the Derby.

Following his victory at Feilden, there were suggestions that Meehan could try his hand at the French Derby, but he has since opted against it.

He added: “I think for the moment we wouldn’t be in a hurry to venture any further, maybe until the end of the summer. It (French Derby) was a thought at the time, but I talked to the owner and from the Dee we’ll go to the Hampton Court (at Royal Ascot). He’s in the Eclipse as well, so that’s a possibility, one or the other I’d say, rather than both.”
