James Doyle is anticipating some exciting rides at Royal Ascot, but this year carries extra pressure as he gears up to be the first jockey for Wathnan Racing at the prestigious event.
Doyle has experience riding for top operations such as Juddmonte and Godolphin. Still, he now finds himself in the unique position of being the primary jockey for Wathnan, under the patronage of the Emir of Qatar.
Wathnan's team has assembled a strong line up for Ascot, including previous winners like Courage Mon Ami and Gregory. Despite the investment in talent, Doyle acknowledges the challenges of the event and the need for everything to go right.
Apart from Wathnan's horses, Doyle will ride for Roger Varian, with the talented Elmalka in the Coronation Stakes. He recognises the privilege of his position and hopes for success with a bit of luck.
One of Doyle's top chances for the week is Haatem, trained by Richard Hannon, in the Jersey Stakes. The Guineas-placed colt is a standout contender for the race.
Wathnan has also made an impact in the two-year-old ranks, with Karl Burke's Leovanni and Shareholder looking promising for their respective races. Doyle also mentioned Richard Fahey's promising colts, Catalyse and Shadow Army.
Reflecting on his past successes at Royal Ascot, including wins with Al Kazeem and Kingman, Doyle is excited for the opportunities that lie ahead at the prestigious event.
