"It was one of the best days of my life," Wright says, reflecting on the last half-century

An individual who hadn't visited the Meath venue since triumphing in the Easter Monday feature race fifty years ago was present at Fairyhouse to witness Intense Raffles join the esteemed list of winners in the Irish Grand National.

It was a momentous occasion when Eddie Wright, the triumphant jockey of the Colebridge horse in the 1974 Irish National race, revisited the location of his greatest achievement on his 77th birthday. The Dubliner's joy was palpable as he stepped foot once again in the place where his career had reached its pinnacle.

My personal journey at the venue was nothing short of extraordinary. Upon my arrival, I was entrusted with the care of two magnificent equines. The thrill of riding Alpheus to victory in the Arkle Chase at the 1971 Cheltenham Festival was unparalleled. And later, I had the privilege of guiding Colebridge to triumph in the National. These were the two horses I had the honour of caring for during my visit to the stable.

"You had to care for your horses at that time." Things have changed, and people no longer have to take care of their horses, clean their stables, and perform all those tasks. That's what you needed to accomplish in the past.

Reflecting on Easter Monday 1974, Wright mentioned: "I remember it being a pleasantly warm day."
