Isambard Brunel staked his claim for the Futurity Trophy at Doncaster after an impressive performance in the Navan Racecourse Welcomes Our Local Community Maiden. The son of Justify secured his first win, pulling three and a half lengths clear of Red King over a mile under Wayne Lordan, justifying his status as the 1-2 favourite.
Aidan O’Brien’s colt now has the Group One Futurity Trophy on October 26 in his sights, but his participation will hinge on the ground conditions.
Chris Armstrong, representing O’Brien’s yard, said: "He’s had two nice runs in England, and he’s a horse with plenty to look forward to next year. He appreciates better ground and handled it well today. If the ground stays good, we could consider one of the Group races, but he’s definitely a horse for the future.
"The trip for the Futurity would suit him perfectly, and he has the class to step up. The only question is the ground—he can handle some ease, but he would prefer better conditions for a race of that calibre."
Described as a typical Justify, Isambard Brunel has plenty of size, strength, and a smooth stride, making him an exciting prospect for the season ahead.
