In the REA Dooley Group Handicap Chase at Limerick, a lot was going on, but in the end, the favourites exhaled with relief as they won on Kilmurry Jj (2/1).
John Shinnick held him up, and when Electric Dreamer quit the game six out, leaving Chainofconsequence in charge of things, it did not go well for either of them.
After three outs, Chainofconsequence was obvious, but Kilmurry JJ started to move in third. Shinnick pursued his horse, and the pair menacingly advanced into a threatening position off Chainofconsequence in the straight.
Kilmurry Jj appeared to have Cosmic Blizzard covered before the final out after sweeping through to lead before two outs, but the loose horse shot straight across Kilmurry Jj who was forced to hesitate.
Cosmic Blizzard led the charge when he jumped it, but Kilmurry Jj tenaciously continued to gain ground, although just barely, in the shadow of the post when the loose horse crossed him on the run-in. Runner-up, Cosmic Blizzard, had an 11/1 chance and was leading Chainofconsequence (7/1) by a length and three parts.
Terence O`Brien said: "This is what racing needs and we'd encourage more (syndicates) if we could. They get as much of a kick out of it as winning a big race and since they started, 29 of the 30 are still in the syndicate. The syndicate has been self-financing as Mahler's Dollar was their first horse and he won them €40,000, so then we bought Emancipator with that money. With the prize money he won, we bought this horse and there's still money in the kitty. We buy horses with form as it is very hard to go the other way to buy store horses for €50,000 - where would you be going?"
